Over the years, I've become really aware of mental health, the role it can play in our lives, and the importance of talking about it.

I've had times where I've struggled - struggled to be happy, struggled to focus, and struggled to appreciate the things that I love. I've muddled through, and more recently I've discovered things like therapy which have helped me stay healthy, well and happy. But there have been scary points as well. I'm now doing what I can in my work and volunteering, in my training as a counsellor, and in my relationships and community to facilitate conversations about mental health - and it's this passion that made me decide to run London Marathon for Mind.

I'm excited about this, and a bit daunted - while I have run a couple of marathons before, my running been hit by a few things: age, COVID, and a couple of years working from home. Training for this and then doing it are each going to be big challenges, but knowing I'm doing it for a cause that matters will help me power through.

It would be disingenuous to not mention that the London Marathon has been on my bucket list for a few years - it's an incredible event, and running it will be a memory that will stay with me forever. But, if it makes you feel more inclined to get your wallet out - it's going to be a real challenge for me!

I'm sharing my JustGiving page from today, and here begins the work: preparing for the run, and starting the fundraising. I'm hoping to raise at least £2000, and would be thrilled if I could raise even more than that. I'll be writing about my training and Mind in this blog, and planning some events and bits as well - if you have any ideas, do get in touch!
